ARLINGTON — Two people died in a fire Jan. 19, but the bodies weren’t recovered until the next day because of unsafe conditions of the burned building.
Neighbors tried to enter the mobile home, to rescue its occupants, but the fire had overtaken too much of the structure for them to enter safely.
Investigators made sure the roof of the mobile home was stable before they entered the morning after a fire in the 16400 block of Jordan Way.
A neighbor first reported the fire around 9 p.m. Jan. 19, and witnesses who called 911 said they believed two people were still inside the home.
Responders found two bodies after the fire was extinguished, but the Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to confirm their identities.
Detectives from the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office Major Crimes Unit arrived around midnight to assess the scene, but the Snohomish County Fire Marshal determined the structure was still unsafe to enter at that time.
Detectives returned in the morning to continue the investigation, said Shari Ireton, director of communications for the sheriff’s office.
