MARYSVILLE – ’Tis the season for fires as the temperatures get colder.
A garage turned into a residence caught fire at 8:42 a.m. Tuesday in the 5600 block of Grove Street, sending three people to the hospital as a precaution due to smoke inhalation..
Firefighters arrived in six minutes, and the fire was under control within 20 minutes. The fire loss has been estimated at $58,000. The Red Cross is assisting the family.
At the height of the incident, more than 24 firefighters battled the blaze, with mutual aid provided by Snohomish County Fire Districts 21 and 19. Grove Street was closed while firefighters put out the blaze but reopened hours later.
Marysville Fire Marshal Tom Maloney would like to remind people to never leave space heaters unattended, check your smoke alarms regularly and practice your emergency plan. Never re-enter your structure after you evacuate, and the installation of fire sprinklers would reduce the effects of fire.
