More ballots counted, but local election results change little

An incumbent Marysville school board member and a former Marysville City Council member were still behind in election returns Wednesday night.

Also, in Arlington, the mayor’s race remains extremely close, with incumbent Barb Tolbert expanding her lead to 34 votes after leading by 27 Election Night over challenger Don Vanney Jr.

Paul Galovin was leading Mariana Maksimos 4,069 to 3,457, or 54 percent to 46 percent, in the Marysville school board race, and Kelly Richards was ahead of Jeff Siebert 3,431 to 3,205, or 51 percent to 48 percent, in the council race.

Incumbents were leading easily in the other Marysville races.

For mayor, Jon Nehring was way ahead of Michael Patrick 5,533 to 1,650, or 76 percent to 24 percent.

Likewise, Councilman Stephen Muller was way out in front of Katherine Iverson 4,522 to 2,044, or 68 percent to 31 percent.

And for school board incumbent Tom Albright had a big lead over Halleh Stickels 5,017 to 2,552, or 66 percent to 33 percent.

Arlington

Some incumbents were struggling here.

Tolbert’s lead is just 50.5 percent to 49 percent.

On the City Council, Sue Weiss is losing badly to Michele Blythe 1,126 to 905, or 55 percent to 44 percent.

For school board, Sue’s husband, director Jim Weiss, was doing better against Sheri Kelly, ahead 1,992 to 1,776, or 53 percent to 47 percent.

Proposition 1, an advisory vote to ban fireworks, was leading 1,292 to 987, or 57 percent to 43 percent. With North County Regional Fire Authority Proposition 1, the levy was failing 1,747 to 1,793, or 49 percent in favor and 51 percent against. However the measure was behind by 80 votes Election Night and now trails by 46. Only 50 percent is needed for passage.

And for fire commissioner, Greg Oakes is way in front of Jeff Sinker 2,148 to 1,021, or 67 percent to 32 percent.

Lakewood

Steven Larson is whipping Jeremy Toponce for school board in the only race here. Larson had 1,107 votes to 572 for Toponce, or 65 percent to 34 percent.

The overall turnout countywide so far is 20 percent, with 95,068 ballots cast out of 475,826 registered voters.
