MARYSVILLE — At approximately 1:40 p.m. June 18, Marysville Fire Crews were dispatched to a residential fire in the 5900 block of 77th Avenue NE. Callers reported seeing smoke coming from a house. When crews arrived, they found a bark fire that didn’t extend to the house, but easily could have.

The Marysville Fire District Fire Marshal ruled the cause as discarded smoking materials.

Getchell Fire also sent an engine crew.

There were no injuries or dollar loss, but Kristen Thorstenson, public education specialist and public information officer for the Marysville Fire District, warned people not to let this happen in their neighborhoods

“What used to be moist isn’t anymore,” Thorstenson said. “Things that normally wouldn’t burn are dry enough to burn now. We encourage you, as you prepare for your summer celebrations, to make sure your beauty bark is moist, and tall vegetation is cleared from structures. We also ask those who smoke to discard of their smoking materials properly.”
