MARYSVILLE — Marysville seniors Emily Boerger and Jeffrey Jensen have been honored as November’s Students of the Month.

The Marysville Soroptimist and Kiwanis Clubs recognizes one boy and one girl at Marysville-Pilchuck High School each month for an outstanding combination of academic achievement, school involvement, community involvement and leadership.

Boerger’s academic credentials include a course load with an emphasis on Advanced Placement classes. She took three as a junior and takes four as a senior, along with physics and environmental science, carrying a 4.0 grade point average. Last year, she was recognized by the Masonic Lodge as a recipient of their “Outstanding Junior” award. She also received the Washington State University “Crimson” Scholarship.

In addition to academics, Boerger has proven a formidable athlete in volleyball, her chosen sport. She has played middle for the Tomahawk volleyball team, earning a spot on the varsity squad as a sophomore. She has been named to the all-conference first team and has earned team awards including junior varsity MVP and C-team “Most Inspirational Player” award during her four years. Boerger played in the state volleyball tournament as a sophomore and, as co-captain, led her team to qualify her senior year. In the offseason, Boerger plays for the Rain City Volleyball Club, of which she is also captain.

She is also the founder and president of Marysville-Pilchuck’s Ping Pong Club.

Boerger’s other on-campus activities include participation in National Honor Society, volunteering for annual campus clean-up You Gotta Love This Place and nomination to the homecoming court.

Off campus, Boerger attends Mountain View Presbyterian Church, where she has been a leader for Vacation Bible School and participated in the youth group’s mission trip to Costa Rica in 2007. She has participated in the Seattle Children’s Choir and been an assistant for Marysville Middle School volleyball tryouts and the M-P volleyball camp.

Jensen is another exceptional student at M-P, carrying a 3.94 grade point average. He is a math tutor, member of National Honor Society and a nominee for the Moose Lodge Scholarship.

Outside of the classroom, Jensen is a two-sport athlete. He has played varsity tennis since his sophomore season and varsity soccer since his junior year. When the soccer season resumes this spring, Jensen will serve as captain of the squad. He has also been captain of his Premier soccer team for the last three years.

Jensen has participated in a number of charitable community projects. Since 2005, he has been on mission trips to Idaho, Mississippi and San Francisco. He has also volunteered at the men’s and women’s shelters during the past three years and helped provide flood aid in Centralia in 2007. He participated in the Big Buddy Program in 2006 and gathered food for the food bank every year since 2005. He has also participated in the Eagles Wings Dinner for the past four years and has volunteered in special needs classes.

In addition, Jensen is an employee at the Nike Factory Outlet store.
