Agency issues alert due to wildfire smoke
The Puget Sound Clean Air Agency Monday issued an alert for Snohomish and other counties.
Air pollution is increasing due to wildfire smoke and may cause health problems.
With winds pushing smoke from British Columbia and the fires in the Cascades in this direction, poor air quality is expected through Wednesday.
Current air quality levels in Darrington are unhealthy for everyone, a news release says, adding in could spread to other areas as well.
Smoke can cause trouble breathing, coughing, stinging eyes, irritated sinuses, headaches, asthma attacks, chest pain and fast heartbeat.
Sensitive groups should take precautions, including: children, older adults and women who are pregnant, and people who have heart or lung issues (such as asthma and COPD), or that have had a stroke.
The agency advises folks to stay inside and limit physical activity outdoors. Close windows and if you have an air conditioner use the “recirculation” switch. Avoid driving, but if you do keep windows closed. Use the car’s recirculation cycle, rather than pulling in outside air.
Marysville man wins $50K in Lottery
MARYSVILLE – A Marysville man is celebrating a $50,000 lottery win after playing “Lady Luck” Scratch. He purchased his winning ticket at the Albertsons, 301 Marysville Mall.
The man told lottery officials that when he first scratched the ticket, he was alone in his kitchen after this family went to bed. Realizing he held a winning ticket, he ran upstairs to wake his wife. “My wife didn’t believe I won,” shared the winner, whose name was not released.
“She told me to go to sleep and check the ticket again in the morning. I had such a hard time trying to fall asleep because I was so excited.”
The man and his wife have a son in high school and have spent the last several years preparing to send him to college. He plans to use his winnings to help with his son’s college expenses.
The winner also plans to take his family out for a fancy lobster dinner.
MLT man dies but 3 Arlington drivers OK after wreck
ARLINGTON – Three Arlington drivers escaped injuries, but a Mountlake Terrace man was killed during a four-car collision Sunday.
Drivers Stacey Williams, 29, Philip Nelson, 42, and Kathleen Bergstrom, 73, all of Arlington, were not hurt. Bergstrom was westbound on Highway 530 four miles west of Arlington when she collided with the unidentified 58-year-old MLT man. The Washington State Patrol reported that the man’s car rolled and he was ejected. Bergstrom’s vehicle then collided with the other two cars, which also were eastbound, the WSP says.
