MARYSVILLE – Recent snowfall delayed plenty of events on people’s social calendars, but it wasn’t deep enough to trip up dads and their little princesses ready for an enchanting evening at the 14th annual Father-Daughter Valentine’s Dance.

The second weekend of the sellout dances hosted by the Marysville parks department were rescheduled a week later to Feb. 16.

Dads and daughters dressed in their finest threads and prom-worthy dresses to make it a night to remember, with dancing, fun and memories. Girls scrambled into the Cedarcrest Middle School cafeteria seeking out their friends to talk about dance moves.

DJ musical entertainment ranged from participation songs like “The Chicken Dance,” “YMCA” and disco’s “Stayin’ Alive” to the latest pop dance hits filling girls’ digital music library.

Attendees left with a 5 x 7 photo to remember the night.

Marysville Kiwanis Club served cookies, punch and water to refresh the dancers.

Andrea Kingsford, recreation coordinator with the parks department, said nothing is more moving than seeing the generations of daughters come back who were half the size when she first met them, hearing about what they’ve been up to and seeing the beaming fathers who couldn’t be prouder. Some are full-grown now who enjoy attending or helping out at the event just to remember the experience. 

Up next is the Mother-Son Superhero Dance – capes are optional. The event is scheduled for March 23, also at Cedarcrest. Sessions are available for 5-6:30 p.m. and 7-8:30 p.m. Cost is $25 per couple and $5 for each additional son attending.
