MARYSVILLE — At 9:30 p.m. on Wednesday, the Marysville Fire District was dispatched to an unknown type fire in the area of 116th Street NE and State Avenue.

Firefighters arrived at 9:40 p.m.and located a large pile of tires and other debris on fire that was left by a homeless camp in an undeveloped area west of State Avenue and east of I-5.The first arriving officer reported a large pile of tires on fire. The cause of the fire is intentional (arson) and has been turned over for investigation to the Marysville Police Department.

The city of Marysville and the Tulalip Tribes have been working jointly to clean up this area that has many incidents over the years. With the help from the property owners and the cooperate efforts of the city and Tribes this vacant land is being cleaned up to support safety to residents and the environment.

No firefighter injuries were reported and there is no monetary loss involved. Crews remained on-scene until after 12:30 a.m. and returned later with the help of the city of Marysville Public Works Department and Tulalip Tribes to finish extinguishment. The debris will be removed by the city and Tribes as soon as large trucks can be driven into the site.

At the height of the incident eight firefighters battled the blaze, with mutual aid provided by Getchell (Snohomish County Fire District 22).

The fire was investigated by the Marysville Fire District and turned over to the Marysville Police Department for further investigation. Anyone with information regarding this incident should call the Marysville Police Department.
