Everett Community College closed its Marysville cosmetology building Friday morning after a cosmetology student reported feeling ill.

The student told her instructors that she may have been exposed to swine influenza A (H1N1) virus from a family member.

The illness has not been confirmed for the student or her family member. Everett Community College has notified the Snohomish Health

District and its students, faculty and staff about the reported illness via its emergency communications channels – text message, EvCC’s Web site, college main phone number at 425-388-9100 and Schoolreport.org.

The cosmetology student who reported feeling ill has not been to any of Everett Community College’s other locations recently, including the main campus in north Everett. All other EvCC buildings, programs and services remain open.

The cosmetology building, 9315 G State Ave. in Marysville, is expected to reopen Monday after EvCC facilities crews thoroughly sanitize the building.

EvCC’s cosmetology program includes 50 students and five faculty and staff members.

Everett Community College is hosting two information sessions next week about swine flu. Mary Schoenfeldt, public education director for the City of Everett Office of Emergency Management, will speak May 6 and 7. Session one is scheduled for 2:30-3:30 p.m. May 6 in Gray Wolf Hall 386/388, and session two is scheduled for 9-10 a.m. May 7 in Gray Wolf Hall 166/168.

Gray Wolf Hall is located on EvCC’s main campus, 2000 Tower St. in Everett.
