The Evergreen State Fairgrounds is looking for a few good ropers for the second annual Evergreen State Fair and Rodeo Donkey Calf Roping event. The event is slated for Sept. 1, beginning at 2 p.m., in the area during the Pro-West Rodeo Show at the Evergreen Equestrian Park.
Two people 18 and older will make up a team. One will be the rider/roper and the other is the hazer and donkey holder. Donkeys are led into the area and given to the hazer to hold. Three or four calves are let loose into the area. Riders are lined up with ropes in hand on the opposite end of the arena. When the announcers says Go, they run to mount their donkey. The hazer then leads the donkey to the calves for the rider to rope. The first team to rope a calf is the winner.
There is a five-minute time limit. If there is no proclaimed winner, then there will be a donkey race.
The winning team will receive buckles and the second-place team will receive gift certificates to Canyons Restaurant. Each team entered will receive eight fair admissions and public address announcements for the team and their sponsor.
Entry fee is $100 per team. Interested parties may call Craig Ohm at 360-863-9300.
