MARYSVILLE — Amy Famelos and Nick Forsythe were named the Marysville Soroptimists’ September “Students of the Month.”

Famelos has a 3.89 cumulative GPA and has taken Honors English as a sophomore, AP language and composition, chemistry and college algebra as a junior, and AP literature and composition, AP comparative politics and AP statistics as a senior.

She’s been a member of the National Honor Society as both a junior and a senior, and she’s been recognized with the T-Bird Award for Best Scholar Athlete from Marysville Junior High School in 2006, a Certificate of Academic Excellence and a President’s Award for Educational Excellence that same year, and an award from the National Society of High School Scholars in 2008.

Famelos has been involved in JV tennis as a freshman, varsity tennis as a sophomore, junior and senior, freshman team volleyball in 2005, JV volleyball in 2006-2007, and varsity volleyball in 2008. She was a sophomore homecoming princess in 2006 and served in the Big Buddy program, through Kellogg Marsh Elementary, that same year.

In 2008, Famelos has served on the senior cabinet of the homecoming committee, as an ASB elections officer and a freshman mentor, as part of freshman orientation and a week-long leadership camp, and at leadership retreats. She was involved with YGLPT from 2006-2008 and was a member of the Marysville United Methodist Church Youth Council in 2006.

Famelos took week-long summer mission trips to Camp Twinlow in Idaho in 2005, for Hurricane Katrina relief work in Mississippi in 2006, and to the Arms of Love Orphanage in Nicaragua in 2007. She took part in three days of flood cleanup work in Centralia, Wash., during the 2007 school year, and in the summer of 2008 she took a week-long mission trip to San Francisco.

Among the events she’s participated in as a Youth Group member are the 2007 Eagle Wings dinner, the yearly Christmas party at the Everett Gospel Mission, volunteer work for the Marysville Food Bank, bingo at senior living communities, food and clothing drives, putting together Thanksgiving baskets, and holiday parties at women and children’s shelters.

Forsythe is a National Honor Society member who’s first in his class with a 4.0 GPA. In 2006, he received the T-Bird All-Around Student of the Year Award, a Certificate of Academic Excellence and a President’s Award for Educational Excellence. He’s taken hi-cap literature and history as a freshman, advanced literature as a sophomore, college algebra, AP composition and chemistry as a junior, and biotechnology, AP literature and calculus as a senior. As a junior, he also received the Freemasons Academic Scholarship.

Forsythe has been involved in basketball all four years of high school, earning the most improved award as a junior, and serving as team captain of both the freshmen and the varsity seniors. He’s also been involved in football all four years of high school, as well as in soccer as a freshman. He was a sophomore homecoming prince, and as a senior, he’s organized homecoming week coordination and pep assembly setup.

Forsythe has taken part in the Youth Group Word of Life, three years of being a Big Buddy to a child with special needs, volunteer work at the food bank, and his church’s basket donation program, on behalf of families with incarcerated parents, and by making Thanksgiving deliveries. During his sophomore homecoming week, he also served lunches to elementary schools.

In addition to serving as an ASB representative as a freshman, Forsythe has taken part in ASMP Leadership, served as a special events coordinator and been involved in the Mt. Rainier Leadership Camp. In 2008, he’s also been involved in YGLPT and leadership retreats.
