MARYSVILLE ­— Is there a Family Fun Center, an indoor and outdoor amusement park-style attraction, coming to the city?

According to city Senior Planner Chris Holland, operators of the Family Fun Center in Tukwila have been talking about placing a facility in this area on and off for five or six years.

Last month, however, application was made to the city for a binding site plan for a Family Fun Center on 6.9 acres at the northwest corner of the intersection of 156th Street NE and Twin Lakes Avenue.

“This is still in the very preliminary stages,” Holland said.

But he also added this is the first formal application made to the city in the name of Family Fun Center.

A design and consulting firm is the contact listed in the application sent to the city. That consultant referred questions on the project to Family Fun Center’s Scott Huish.

Huish did not return several phone calls.

The group potentially looking to build in Marysville operates two Family Fun Centers, including the Tukwila location and another in Wilsonville, Ore. Both locations feature a Bullwinkle’s Restaurant, named after the classic cartoon character. The center can be rented for private parties, birthdays and other events.

At the Tukwila location, based on the center’s Web site, besides the restaurant, other indoor attractions carry names such as “Laser X-treme” and “Max Flight.”

Perhaps more notably, outdoor activities possible include go-carts, bumper boats, miniature golf, batting cages and so on.

According to Holland, the application made to the city begins the process of creating environmental and traffic impact studies, along with looking at drainage, land elevations and other steps necessary to launch the project.

The application talks about the overall development of a total of 17 acres, with work coming in phases. Judging from the application, Phase 1 is a Family Fun Center, including a 65,700-square-foot building along with 77,000-square-feet of outdoor attractions.

Phase 2 could include construction of five apparently unrelated retail buildings. The application mentions a possible Phase 3, but states that construction is for the future and gives no further details.

Holland said the city has 120 days from March 21 to respond to the initial application. He said at this point there is no way to know what plans, if any, Family Fun Center has in terms of a construction or opening timeline.
