Fire Department Connections stolen

MARYSVILLE — The Marysville Fire District has reported that, over the course of the past month, Fire Department Connections and other firefighting fittings have been stolen from properties within Marysville. The FDCs are chunky brass fittings used by firefighters to connect their hoses to the internal sprinkler systems of commercial buildings.

“The theft of these FDCs is very detrimental to our ability to provide service in the event of a fire emergency,” said Kristen Thorstenson, public education specialist and public information officer for the Marysville Fire District. “There is a greater potential for fire damage and fatalities from fire when the fire department does not have the ability to connect hoses to the FDC to boost water pressure to the building sprinkler system. In addition, the cost to the property owner can exceed $2,000 to fix the theft.”

The Marysville Fire District is working with the Marysville Police Department to correct the problem, but they need the community’s help to solve this crime. Those with information regarding the theft of any of these FDCs should contact the Marysville Police Department, and those who see properties that are missing these FDCs should contact the Marysville Fire District at 360-363-8500.
