MARYSVILLE — Firefighters dodged traffic on State Avenue in Marysville on Friday, Sept. 13, and filled their boots with cash from generous passers-by, in an effort to raise money for muscular dystrophy research.

The “Fill the Boot” fundraiser puts local firefighters and volunteers on the ground to gather money in an annual event.

“All the money we raise goes directly to the Muscular Dystrophy Association to help fund medical research and send kids to camp,” said Kristen Almgren, fundraising coordinator. “All the money we raise in Washington stays in Washington, so we are funding local research and sending local kids to camp.”

Drivers paused to drop spare change and even multiple bills into boots held out by dozens of local firefighters. The total funds raised are still being tallied and firefighters will remain on State Avenue and Grove Street until 3 p.m.
