MARYSVILLE — The students of the Marysville Arts and Technology High School want to leave behind a legacy for their peers, and Lana Magnan hopes that the local community will help them achieve their goal.
Magnan is the co-chair of the second annual Senior Legacy Auction benefitting the Arts and Technology High School, which takes place April 11 this year at the Tulalip Resort Casino.
As the Arts and Tech School marks its first full year at the “Options Campus,” which houses three specialty schools, its senior-year students have decided that they want to benefit the 939 students of all three schools, including the 10th Street School and Heritage High School, by creating an athletic field on campus.
Although the Marysville School District lacks the funds to support such a cause, Magnan believes that an athletic field in this area — which could serve soccer, football, and possibly even softball and baseball players — would ultimately benefit not only the three schools, but also the community as a whole.
Magnan sees a future in which such a field could accommodate not only after-school sports and physical education, but also outdoor lunches and classes.
Even the humblest of development goals could run up to a million dollars, though, so Magnan urged community members to pitch in, especially since the current economic downturn has cut short many traditional sources of funding, such as grants.
Tickets for the auction run $55 per person, $100 per couple and $500 for a table of 10. The reception and silent auction begin at 5:30 p.m., and will be followed by a four-course dinner, wine paring and live auction. Seattle Seahawks defensive tackle Craig Terrill, who attended last year’s Senior Legacy Auction, is tentatively scheduled to return this year.
Auction items range from gift baskets of jewelry and wine to trips and dinners at the Tulalip Resort Hotel and Casino. Magnan noted that donation items and table sponsorships are still being accepted, and will be credited. Likewise, the donations, sponsorships and even admission are all tax-deductible.
