LAKEWOOD Lakewood High School sophomore Nick Borisov placed fifth in the individual series for Quick Serve Restaurant Management at the DECA State Career Development Conference in Bellevue March 9 and 10.
He earned the right to advance to the next level of competition, said DECA advisor Stacy Tronsdal.
Borisov competed against 69 of the top students that were selected from a competition at the area level. Now he has earned the opportunity to advance to compete at the 61st International Career Development Conference in Orlando, Fla. April 27- May 2.
The individual series provides an opportunity for participants to analyze a case study of one or a combination of elements essential to the effective operation of a business in a specific occupational area. Elements include financial management, personnel management, merchandise management, marketing issues and security issues found within the occupations.
The International Career Development Conference is the highlight of the DECA year for the up to 14,000 members, advisors, businesspersons and alumni who attend. Most of the participants are at ICDC as competitors in one of DECAs competency-based competitive events. Top competitors in each event category are recognized for their outstanding achievements.
During the International Career Development Conference the students will take a marketing/quick serve restaurant management test and appear before a judges for a role-play presentation.
By giving students hands-on experience in the fields of marketing, business and entrepreneurship, DECA enhances the classroom experience by providing conferences and competitions that mold high school students into character-driven leaders.
Along with Borisov, Breonna Albro, Nick Devier, Justine Bates, Kayla Anttila, Amy Ourso, Alicia Wendell, and Jessica Deyo also competed at the state level.
