MARYSVILLE — Quil Ceda Stadium hosted two high school football games last night, starting with Marysville Getchell’s final game of the season against Lynnwood in a crossover game.
After a brief moment of silence remembering those affected by the tragedy at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, Marysville youth football player and Leukemia patient, Kennedy O’day, was named honorary captain and participated in the coin-toss prior to kickoff.
After that, MG would dominate Lynnwood 48-27 with sophomore running back Collin Montez rushing for 274 yards and scoring five of the Chargers’ seven touchdowns.
Senior defensive end and tackle John Clark ended his season on a high note as well, leading his team with 10 tackles and two sacks.
Later that night, it was M-P’s turn to take the field against Meadowdale in the Wesco 3A championship game.
Fans from both M-P and MG stayed in the stands to show their support.
With the score 14-13, the Tomahawks advanced their lead by scoring three touchdowns in 41 seconds in the waning minutes of the second half starting with a tip-pick by senior defensive back Darrion Young.
M-P never looked back and would win 55-34, advancing to the No. 1 seed in the district playoffs.
In other local games, Lakewood defeated Granite Falls 47-6 Oct. 30, compiling 406 rushing yards with quarterback Blake Watts rushing for 97 of those yards and scoring a touchdown.
Lakewood will now play in the No. 1 seed in the 2A Cascade Conference.
