Marysville-Pilchuck lost today (Nov. 14) in the first round of the state 3A volleyball playoffs at St. Martin’s University in Lacey.
M-P fell to Mercer Island in three games, losing 25-14, 25-21 and 25-16.
As a result, the Tommies will have to come up through the loser’s bracket. They are scheduled to play again today against Seattle Prep at Timberline High School at 5:15 p.m.
Seattle Prep fell today to Auburn Riverside, also 3-0. Its scores were 25-13, 25-17 and 25-11.
M-P wasn’t the only team to lose 3-0.
Winning by 3-0 scores were: Lakeside over Bellevue, Capital over Ferndale and Southridge over North Thurston.
Winning 3-1 were: Eastside Catholic over Edmonds-Woodway and Columbia River over Holy Names Academy.
Kamakian beat Prairie 3-2.
In the 2A competition at Pierce College in Fort Steilacoom, Lakewood lost a heart-breaker to North Kitsap 3-2.
The Cougars took the first game 25-20, but lost a squeaker in the second game 26-24, which ended up costing them the match. They won the first game 25-20, but lost the fourth 25-20 and the final 15-7.
Lakewood will be playing East Valley of Spokane in the loser’s bracket. That team also lost in the first round 3-2, to Woodland.
In the 3A soccer tournament, Arlington’s girls will play next at Bellevue Saturday (Nov. 15) at 6 p.m. in the semifinals. The Eagles advanced with a 7-3 win earlier this week.
In the state swimming competition at Federal Way, top-seeded diver Brooke Wherley of Marysville Getchell, a senior, placed first after the preliminary 1-meter competition. Teammate Chloe Bishop, seeded 10th as a freshman, advanced to the diving finals Saturday, finishing 10th in the prelims. Alexa Pimental, seeded ninth, was 11th after the first day, but also advanced.
