The bands and choir at Marysville-Pilchuck High School are offering a winter concert, at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 18.

Along with the symphonic, wind and jazz bands, the International School of Communications Choir will also be on the program as well as 150 children from Marshall Creek and Kellogg Marsh elementaries, according to M-PHS band director John Rants.

“The concert will be broadcast live on local TV channel 26,” Rants said.

Admission is free at the concert presented in the M-PHS auditorium.

“We will also be recording the concert and will make CDs to sell,” Rants added.

ISC needs equipment

The International School of Communications Music Department at M-PHS needs donations of equipment for its choir program, said choir director Jeff Tillinghast.

“We are seeking any gently used, functional, MP3 players of any brand, as well as musical keyboards,” Tillinghast said.

Students in the ISC Music Department are using keyboards to develop their voice, compose original music and produce their own recordings.

In addition, MP3 players are being used for students to do independent research, listen to great works of art and prepare their material to be broadcast to the world.

“While we have keyboards and computers in the classroom, our goal is to put these tools in the hands of each musician who needs them,” Tillinghast said.

The ISC Music Department features the only high school choral program in the Marysville School District.It also offers music theory and composition and technology classes.
