TULALIP – Marysville Fire District and Tulalip Bay Fire personnel were dispatched to a technical water rescue just after 4 p.m. on June 14.
Crews responded to reports of a man with no paddle and a child wearing a life jacket on what appeared to be a large piece of styrofoam, and arrived to find the man and the little girl had floated approximately a quarter-mile east off Priest Point toward pilings. A neighbor offered to take firefighters to the two afloat in his boat.
Once ashore, the man and the 5-year-old girl said they had been playing on styrofoam that had floated ashore, before the current swept them east. Neither were injured, just a little cold.
“Remember to always wear a life jacket while around the water,” said Kristen Thorstenson, public information officer and public education specialist for the Marysville Fire District. “When around water with currents or tides, use extra caution, because things can change quickly.”
