MARYSVILLE – A 36-year-old Marysville man turned himself in to police Wednesday night in connection with the arson at Value Village July 2, police said Thursday.

He was booked into the Snohomish County Jail in Everett on suspicion of first-degree reckless burning, a felony. Early that morning a witness rode his bicycle the two blocks to the Marysville Public Safety building to report that he saw flames coming from the back side of the Value Village Thrift Store, 1334 State Ave.

Police and fire personnel responded. Damage was estimated at $500,000.

On July 6, during an interview with the North Snohomish County Property Crimes Unit regarding a burglary investigation, a suspect admitted his role in the Value Village fire. When the suspect was contacted about coming in for a follow-up interview, he turned himself in. He stated he was attempting to look inside a trailer with a lighter and some clothing near the door caught fire.

Unrelated burglary and possession of stolen property charges are pending.
