MARYSVILLE — From free stress management and parenting advice to health and youth programs, Marysville-area parents and young people will be able to find a variety of free information at the Marysville 411 Community Connections Festival on March 21.

The Marysville Community Coalition is inviting parents and teens to the 411 festival, a one-stop source for information, from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Totem Middle School, on 1605 Seventh St. Free lunch will be provided, along with music and entertainment, games, crafts, and information from family-supporting agencies and organizations.

Guest speakers are set to include Rick Pribbernow, a widely-known parenting expert and Compass Health counselor, who will provide a talk on stress management from 12:30-1 p.m., and Michelle Rastovich, who will speak on developmental assets from 1:30-2 p.m. Developmental assets are aimed at positive youth development, with the idea that, the more assets young people have, the less likely they are to engage in high-risk behaviors, and the more likely they are to thrive.

“This is your chance to get the 411 on free resources, referrals and information from local community assistance organizations,” said Cathy Schindler, Coalition Chair. “The Coalition’s goal is to make local families aware of the wide range of community-based resources and programs available to them, shared in a fun, casual setting. We want people of all cultures and backgrounds to be more knowledgeable about the services available to them in this area.”

Attendees will be able to drop by more than two dozen informational booths to get the 411 on community health and safety resources. Participating agencies include the Marysville School District, Marysville Parks and Recreation, Marysville Fire District, YMCA, 211, Sno-Isle Regional Library, Salvation Army, Marysville Youth Action Network, Housing Authority of Snohomish County, Campfire USA, Teens Against Tobacco Use, Compass Health, Families and Friends of Victims of Violent Crimes, and Providence Hospital Intervention Center for Assault and Abuse.

The Marysville Fire District will have a truck on hand, so parents can bring a camera for photos. Music and dance entertainment will feature the Grove Street Library Band, Totem Marimba Band and breakdancing from Soul Rebelz. For youth, the Marysville Library will offer Dance Dance Revolution, Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Child care, and crafts tables hosted by Campfire USA, will also be available. Special appearances will be made by mascots Webbly, with the Everett AquaSox, OxyGene, with Community Transit, and Rudy Raccoon, with the Marysville School District.

The Marysville Community Coalition is a community partnership committed to promoting safety, diversity and awareness in responding to the needs of youth in their respective communities. The event is cosponsored by Snohomish County Community Mobilization.
