Marysville Fire District crews respond to residential fire

MARYSVILLE — At approximately 6:40 a.m., Wednesday, April 8, Marysville Fire District crews responded to the scene of a house fire located between Fifth and Sixth streets on Alder Avenue. Initial reports indicated there may have been fireworks stored at the location. The neighbors calling said they heard snapping and popping, according to Kristen Thorstenson, Public Education Specialist/Public Information Officer for the Marysville Fire District.

First arriving crews found a single-family residence with smoke and flames showing – about 50 percent involved. They rapidly controlled the fire. Three engine companies, three medic/aid units, one ladder company, and Battalion Chief responded. Approximately 23 emergency crew members responded. There were fireworks found at the residence, some had ignited.

There were no injuries reported. The resident was displaced and will stay with friends. One cat is missing, but it is presumed to have fled the house.

The structure and content loss is estimated at $150,000.

The investigation was conducted in partnership by Marysville Fire District’s Fire Marshal and Police Department Detectives.

Never leave a candle burning unattended. If you burn candles make sure they are on a non-combustible surface that cannot be tipped over.

Fireworks safety: If you store legal fireworks, place them in a non-combustible container.
