MARYSVILLE — Marysville police are looking for a suspect in connection with an assault and arson that occurred early Friday morning in Marysville.

At around 3:45 a.m., March 15, Marysville Police officers responded to a disturbance at a residence in the 14500 block of 58th Drive. During the investigation of events that took place police learned that a female living in the residence had been in her bedroom when she saw a subject she recognized as her boyfriend’s occasional employer run toward her open window and throw a bottle into the room in her direction, according to Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux of the Marysville Police Department. The bottle exploded causing a piece of furniture to ignite but was quickly extinguished by occupants of the house.

The woman ran to the front of the house where she was met by the suspect who slashed at her face several times with a box cutter. When the suspect realized the blade of the box cutter was closed he opened it and slashed at her stomach, cutting her through her sweater causing a superficial wound.

Lamoureux added that the suspect then began throwing chopped wood and other things through the front window. The 34-year-old boyfriend, who also resides at the residence, happened to be walking home from a neighbor’s house when he heard the commotion. When he confronted the man the suspect got into his pickup truck and attempted to run him down. The truck hit a concrete lamppost before speeding off.

Detectives later learned there had been an earlier dispute between the two men. The suspect had left a voicemail message prior to this morning’s incident indicating he was looking for the male victim and that it wasn’t going to be pretty when he found him.

While the investigation is on-going it is important to let the public know that this was not a random attack, according to Lamoureux.
