MARYSVILLE – The Marysville School District Board of Directors and the Board Recruitment Steering Committee have selected four candidates to move forward in the selection process for filling open seats for director districts areas 4 and 5 on the school board.
Utilizing a screening process that involved a set of developed criteria, the board and steering committee selected four candidates (two from each director area) out of nine overall applications received. The following candidates are selected to move forward for board interviews:
Director District No. 4
* Wendy Fryberg – Compliance Manager for the Tulalip Resort Casino, member of the Tulalip Tribes and community member, Secretary of the Marysville Youth Football League, active volunteer at TulalipElementary and Heritage High School, active in attendance at school functions and events, active in the local community, developed the Supervisory Enhancement Course for the supervisory team at the Tulalip Resort, alumni member of Leadership Snohomish County, active participation with the Tulalip Canoe Family, management experience for the past 12 years.
* Sue Rasmussen – Community member, classroom parent volunteer, BS in elementary education, service on district committees including Social Studies curriculum and gifted and talented education, Cedarcrest Middle School site council, PTSA member and volunteer, city of Marysville Library Advisory board member serving as secretary and chair, Cub Scout leader, community service volunteer participation, English as a Second Language tutor and high school teacher in a religious setting for seven years.
Director District No. 5
* Tom Albright – Marysville community member and Pastor of a local congregation, member of the Marysville Noon Rotary, city of Marysville Library Board, volunteer Chaplain for the Marysville Fire District and Marysville Police Department, President of a non-profit organization to raise funds for college scholarships in Kenya, former Officer on the Board for Goodwill Industries, served four years as President of the Board of Directors for Deaconess Children’s Home in Everett, former Chair of Hotline, a crisis intervention phone line, developed a program to address the issues surrounding racism during a bussing crisis in Pasadena, Calif., with a focus on bringing diverse ethnic, age, gender, economic and social groups together, supervisory experience.
* Corinne Diteman – Marysville parent and community member and active member of the Washington State Bar Association since 1990, active volunteer with students in the classroom, service on the following district committees: Citizens Planning Committee, 2004 to present, Boundary Committee 2007, Highly Capable Advisory Committee, 2006 – 2007, Bond Oversight Committee, 2009 – present, active volunteer and publications co-chair for the Citizens for Marysville Schools, 2005 – present, active school volunteer at Liberty Elementary School and the Marysville Cooperative Education Program.
Interviews of the selected candidates will occur at the regular session board meeting on Monday, Oct. 4. Candidates, the board and the public are invited to attend a Meet and Greet reception from 5:30 – 6 p.m. Interviews will follow at 6 p.m. The regular session board meeting itself will be abbreviated to allow for the interview process – board business will follow the interviews, followed by executive session of the board for deliberation on the candidates interviewed.
Appointed candidates will be sworn in at the regular session board meeting on Oct. 18. The Marysville School Board of Directors and Superintendent wish to thank the district’s Board Recruitment Steering
Committee for their hard work and commitment to help the district identify the characteristics of effective board members and select candidates that will make a strong pool of potential board members. Their work has helped to shape the future of the Marysville School District.
