MARYSVILLE — Soroptimist International of Marysville has been active in fundraisers and donation drives for the community, and incoming Marysville Soroptimist President Renae James looks forward to staying busy in the months to come.
Marysville Soroptimist members recently collected 30 blankets and comforters, along with several bags of clothing, for St Joseph’s House, a community supported clothing bank, and presented Domestic Violence Services of Snohomish County with $1,500. On March 6, the group’s “Hams for the Hungry” drive at Grocery Outlet, IGA and Safeway raised $321.50 and 824 pounds of food for the Marysville Community Food Bank.
James explained that Soroptimist International is made up of business and professional women who volunteer to improve the lives of women and girls, both locally and worldwide. In addition to their annual “Junktique” garage sale, set for April 10 this year, Marysville Soroptimist members will also be conducting a “Bunco” fundraiser May 6 at 5:30 p.m.
“We have more than 30 members now, but we always welcome more volunteers,” James said. “We just held a ‘Let’s Get Acquainted’ meeting in February, to reintroduce ourselves to the community. When people give to us, we give that back to the community.”
James can be reached at 425-971-0031, and current Marysville Soroptimist President Rosie Reynaud can be reached at 360-659-0960.
