MARYSVILLE — A train collision with a vehicle Dec. 15 has left the vehicle’s driver in serious condition, according to Marysville Fire District Public Information Officer Kristen Thorstenson.

“At 9:42 a.m., we received the call,” Thorstenson said. “A train hit a vehicle at the crossing of 88th Street and State Avenue. The driver had to be extricated from the vehicle, and he’s been taken to the Colby Campus [of Providence Regional Medical Center in Everett].”

Marysville Police Lt. Jeff Goldman reported that traffic units would continue to investigate the accident along with Burlington Northern Railroad. However, he was able to relay an account that officers have received from a witness at the scene.

“According to the witness, the motorist took a right turn at 88th while heading southbound on State, and went in under the crossing arm as it went down,” Goldman said. “He tried to back out, but it was too late, and he was pushed into the northbound left turn lane.”

As of 11 a.m., Goldman expected that the intersection would be reopened by noon, although he noted that PUD workers would still need to work on electrical lines that were sheared.
