MARYSVILLE — A 48-year-old Snohomish County Medical Examiner’s investigator has been fired after allegedly driving drunk to the scene of a crash, according to reports.

The Associated Press reported on Dec. 31 that Arleigh Marquis of Seattle was fired Dec. 15 for misconduct and violating county rules.

Marquis, who had worked for the county for the past eight years, was arrested at the scene of a two-vehicle crash on Nov. 29 at the intersection of Highway 9 and 108th Street NE near Marysville.

Marquis was allegedly driving a county-owned vehicle and smelled of alcohol when he responded to the crash, according to Washington State Patrol Trooper Keith Leary.

The Washington State Patrol has recommended to the Snohomish County Prosecutor’s Office that Marquis be charged with drunken driving, according to the report.

Four Clearview residents were killed in the collision, and prosecutors charged 27-year-old Snohomish resident Matthew McDonald with four counts of vehicular homicide on Dec. 2.

Detectives allege that McDonald’s 2005 Ford Explorer ran a stop sign and struck a 2007 Hyundai carrying Hilda and Thomas Woods and Melissa and Bradley Agerup, who all died at the scene.

Court documents said that McDonald allegedly had eight beers before driving, and had a blood-alcohal level of .123 — 1.5 times the legal limit — after the crash.
