MG gridders make thrilling comeback against Auburn-Riverside

Quarterback Taylor Koellmer threw a 26-yard pass to Kyle Green with less than a minute left to pull out the win. Koellmer led MG down the field from his own 28-yard line with two minutes remaining in the game.

Sophomore Collin Montez tallied the other two touchdowns in the fourth quarter on runs of 21 and 5 yards. Koellmer passed to Brett Engelman for a two-point conversion after one of Montez’s scores.

MG grabbed a 3-0 lead in the game in the second quarter on a 37-yard field goal by Devon Green.

But Auburn Riverside followed with two touchdowns, on runs of 12 and 6 yards by Cole Huckaby, to take a 14-3 halftime lead.

Montez’s first score made it 14-10, but Huckaby took the ensuing kickoff 83 yards to make it 21-10 in the fourth before Koellmer, Montez and the MG offensive line took over the game.
