MARYSVILLE — Motorcyclists from around the area gathered at Sound Harley-Davidson for the “Raising Kahne For Kids” motorcycle ride Sept. 13.

About 50 motorycles took part in the three-hour benefit ride, which started at the Marysville-based dealership and continued north through Snohomish, Skagit and Whatcom counties.

Proceeds from the charity run went to the Kasey Kahne Foundation. Kahne, driver of the No. 9 Budweiser Dodge Charger and Enumclaw native, competes in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.

Beneficiaries of the foundation include the Ronald McDonald House in Seattle.

The dollar amount raised by the ride was not available at time of publication, but Kari Korsgren, marketing and events manager for Sound Harley-Davidson, said she guessed the event raised thousands of dollars.

In addition to the actual ride, the foundation raised money through donation jars and racing-related auction items, which included clothing worn by Kahne.

Although Kahne was not able to attend the event due to his race schedule, members of his family, including his mother, Tammy Kahne, were on hand for the ride.

The event was orgainzed by Washington State Patrol Officer Lance Ramsay, who had met Kasey Kahne several years ago during a local appearance.

“Kasey has given so much back to the communities throughout Washington over the past several years,” Ramsay said in a release. “The ride allows more people to get personally involved and directly support the Kasey Kahne Foundaiton.”

Food was provided by Snohomish-based BBQ Shack, and Bullet Creek performed country music during the festivities.

“It was incredibly well-attended event, and we look forward to continuing our relationship with the Kasey Kahne Foundation in the years to come,” Korsgren said. “This will be an annual event, so you can count on this again next year.”
