MARYSVILLE The body of a Marysville woman was found in a patch of blackberry bushes next to the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe railroad tracks on Jan. 31 and police quickly labeled the circumstances suspicious.
The woman was a resident of the Brookside Mobile RV Park at 9810 State Avenue, and her dead body was reported to 911 at about 12:45 p.m., according to Marysville Police Department spokesman Ralph Krusey. The woman was described as being in her mid-40s and was fully clothed and there were no signs of trauma, Krusey said. Her body was laying in a patch of brambles down an embankment next to Quilceda Creek.
She had lived at the park with another person and was not reported missing, and Krusey would not explain why officers called the death suspicious.
The Snohomish County Medical Examiner performed an autopsy on the body and found no signs of trauma either, and toxicology results will not be available for several weeks, according to Krusey. The department will continue to investigate the case as a suspicious death, he added. Anyone with information is asked to call detective Chuck Smith at 360-363-8302.
In other news a group of alert citizens helped catch a purse-snatcher across the street from the death scene the next day. At about 4 p.m. on Feb. 1 a 16-year-old boy grabbed a purse from a 65-year-old woman in the parking lot of the K-Mart store in Marysville. Two shoppers heard the victims screams and tried to stop the suspect as he fled southbound in the parking lot but the he got away, according to Krusey. Then another Marysville man chased the suspect in his vehicle eastbound on 95th Street NE and saw him stuffing the purse underneath his shirt. The 40-year-old tackled the suspect by diving at his legs, and was injured in the process. He was able to show police where the boy fled and cops made the arrest without incident at the 4800 block of 100th St. NE. The youth is being held on suspicion of second-degree robbery in the Denny Youth Center in Everett.
This is a prime example of people doing the right thing, Krusey said.
