MARYSVILLE – Marysville School District Superintendent Becky Berg’s surgery Wednesday went well, her executive assistant, Jodi Runyon, said in an email Thursday.
Berg had a 10-hour surgery for removal of a brain tumor the size of a large apricot. The tumor was benign, Runyon said.
Runyon said the surgery for meningioma will be followed by up to a 10-day hospital stay and then recovery at home with gradual return to normal activities. The doctors expects a full recovery.
As deputy superintendent, Jason Thompson will serve as acting superintendent.
Early Dec. 30 Berg experienced a major seizure – which is often the first sign of meningioma – a tumor that grows in the lining between the brain and the skull. Berg has been given medication to reduce the swelling of the tissue around the tumor. The swelling likely caused the seizure.
“Thank you to all for your continued prayers, love, and support now and for the road ahead for Becky. I know that she and her family greatly appreciates it,” Runyon says.
Cards, get well messages, etc. may be sent to the attention of Jodi Runyon at the district office (4220 80th St. NE, Marysville, WA 98270) or via email to Jodi_Runyon@msd25.org.
