MARYSVILLE – The Marysville School Board will vote on expanding the School Resource Officer program in the district from two to five at its meeting Nov. 2.
The district works with the Marysville Police Department to provide two officers at a cost of $192,000 a year for salary and benefits.
But the city has obtained a U.S. Department of Justice Community Oriented Policing Services grant to pay for three more officers.
The five officers will patrol Marysville schools in an attempt to thwart crimes before they happen.
The resolution, which would be good for three years, says it is in the best interest of both the city and district to continue the program.
Also at Monday’s meeting and work session:
•Principal Dave Rose and staff will give a presentation on the School for the Entrepreneur at Marysville Getchell High School.
•Jack Monpas-Huber, director of assessment and student information, will give a presentation on North Star Indicators.
•Principal Kelly Sheward and staff will give a presentation on Marshall Elementary School.
•School board vice president Chris Nation will give a presentation on the National Indian Education Association.
•Finance director Jim Baker will give a year-end closing report.
