Music and movies that have delighted fans of each this summer are coming to an end but there still are a few events left.
The popular group Cherry Cherry, a tribute band to Neil Diamond, will perform at Jennings Park in Marysville Friday, Aug. 14, at 7 p.m. in the last Sounds of Summer Concert of the season.
The final free movie of the summer, Big Hero 6, rated PG, will be shown Saturday, Aug. 15, on the big outdoor screen at the Jennings Park ballfield at dusk. Hundreds of people are expected to attend that show.
In Arlington, the Music on the Terraces continue Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. at 809 5th St. The Stacy Jones Band will play blues Aug. 13, The Folsoms will play a tribute to Johnny Cash Aug. 20 and on Aug. 27 Dennis Agajanian, the “World’s fastest flatpick guitar player,” will perform.
Many events took place last weekend in both towns.
In Marysville, the band Petty Thief, a Tom Petty tribute band, performed at Jennings Park to a hundred or so music fans.
Downtown, hundreds of people attended the Hometown Homegrown Festival over its three days. Visitors listened to music, looked at and bought crafts – almost every tent had some kind of Seahawk item for sale – and ate cupcakes, barbecue, hot dogs, pizza and more.
At the YMCA in Marysville, a family bicycle ride took place to raise money for that organization.
In Arlington, a huge 3-on-3 basketball tournament took place at the Arlington Airport, with teams from all over.
Nearby, organizers with Pennies for Puppies raised money for a new canine dog for the Arlington Police Department.
