51st Avenue

MARYSVILLE — Firefighters from the Marysville Fire District responded about 11:04 p.m., June 24, to a house fire at 10123 51st Ave. NE.

According to fire district Public Information Officer Stephanie Price, callers spotted flames showing from the roof of the home. Crews arriving on the scene reported flames coming from a window as well as through the roof.

The home is a duplex, but flames were contained to one side of the structure by fire crews who were able to douse the blaze within 10 minutes of their arrival, Price said.

She added the problem appears to have started in the home’s kitchen. The Snohomish County Fire Marshall’s Office is investigating the cause of the fire.

No injuries were reported and the occupant of the affected side of the duplex was not at home when the incident occurred. A damage estimate was not released.

Price said four engine companies, one aid company and an EMT squad all responded to the fire.

According to statistics provided by Price, the National Fire Protection Association states cooking equipment is involved in more than 100,000 reported home fires annually.

The association further believes most of the fires are due to inattention to cooking equipment. Price advised when cooking, set timers and be sure that appliances are turned off or unplugged before leaving the kitchen.
