MARYSVILLE — Dog lovers and their four-legged friends are invited to celebrate the grand opening of Strawberry Fields for Rover Off-leash Park, Saturday, Dec. 6, beginning at 9 a.m.
The grand opening had originally be planned for Nov. 15 but had to be rescheduled due to the recent flooding.
The off-leash park is located at the Strawberry Fields Athletic Complex, 6100 152nd St. NE in north Marysville. It features three acres of running room for dogs to roam free. Dogs must be on-leash while on the walking trails leading to the off-leash park. It will be open daily from 7 a.m. to dusk.
“Marysville parks maintenance workers and Marysville Dog Owners Group volunteers have built a dog park that we can all be proud of,” said Jim Ballew, Parks and Recreation Director. The off-leash park has been months in the making, with most of the work and finishing touches made this fall. Park features include a fenced, gated concrete area where owners can affix or remove leashes, signage and other materials at a cost of about $17,000; a multi-level drinking fountain for dogs and people donated by HomeStreet Bank; dog waste bag dispenser; and some trees and benches. Other play features will be added through fundraising efforts of M-DOG.
The Marysville City Council gave the off-leash park the green light earlier this year, with the understanding that M-Dog would provide stewardship for the park, a facility that is considered temporary, but could become permanent, said Ballew.
