LAKEWOOD KMPS 94.1 FM normally doesnt award its Student of the Week title to more than one student for the same week, but for Lakewood Middle School eighth-graders Jamie Due and Michelle Schoon, the radio station made an exception Jan. 26.
LAKEWOOD Lakewood Elementary School students received age-appropriate lessons on respecting the cultures and backgrounds of several different ethnic groups at the schools annual Celebrating Differences diversity event Feb. 1-2.

The YMCA holds several family fun nights throughout the year on Easter, Halloween and other times. This is the seventh or eighth year the program has been going, according to Vickie Southern, family director for the Y. The idea of the parent and child program is that it gives parents a positive way to interact with their kids, Southern said. The Y has two family activity nights each month, usually on Tuesday nights. Other special events include the annual diversity celebration in May, the Healthy Kids Day and outdoor movies on an inflatable projection screen. We try to aim it so its good for families with little kids, Southern said.
