MARYSVILLE — Police recovered a dump truck and back hoe stolen from an excavation company in the city, but still are attempting to track down those responsible for the incident.

In a press release, police Public Information Officer Cmdr. Ralph Krusey said the theft occurred overnight May 29.

With the backhoe sitting on a trailer attached to the truck, the equipment was taken from the contractor’s storage site in the 4600 block of 80th Street NE. Officials did not identify the company involved.

According to police, the thieves also loaded the truck with additional construction equipment. The perpetrators made off with the truck and other items by driving through a locked gate.

Acting on a tip provided by the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office, Krusey said Marysville police found the truck and backhoe on June 2, adding the perpetrators had abandoned the trailer the day before on SR 520 near Arlington. Krusey credited an alert resident with helping locate some of the stolen items. The resident notified a sheriff’s deputy after spotting a truck that seemed out of place in the neighborhood.

Armed with a search warrant, Krusey said detectives recovered the truck itself on the Mountain Loop Highway from Granite Falls.

Police estimate the total value of the items stolen at $100,000. No arrests had been made as of June 4. Police are asking anyone with information in the case to call Marysville detectives at 360-363-8326.
