MARYSVILLE — Those who pass by Asbery Field during the next couple of months might notice that the Puget Sound Clean Air Agency is moving its Marysville air monitoring station.

According to Amy Warren, communications specialist for the agency, the station will be moving from the roof of Totem Middle School to a ground location still on school property.

“The purpose of the move is to improve safety for our monitoring staff,” Warren said. “The purpose of the monitor is to measure fine particles such as soot and smoke in the outdoor air. It does not measure or detect odor.”

Warren noted that this move is unrelated to the complaints of odors reportedly coming from Cedar Grove Composting on Smith Island in Everett and added that no other monitors are being proposed or placed in Marysville.

“The manager for our monitoring team says they hope to have the relocation completed in the next month or two,” Warren said. “It depends on permits, utilities and logistics.”
