TACOMA – Marysville-Pilchuck ran into a hot-shooting Bellevue team, losing 81-45 at the state 3A basketball tournament at the Tacoma Dome March 6.
The Wolverines dominated in every category, making 16-of-28 field goals (59 percent), 11 of 18 three-pointers (61 percent) and 16 of 19 free throws (84 percent).
Senior Michael Painter was the one bright spot for the Tommies, scoring 21 points on 6-of-7 shooting. He also led the team with five rebounds and four assists.
Bellevue, which lost to Rainier Beach 74-65 in the quarterfinals, also led in assists 17-6, rebounds 33-23 and had fewer turnovers, 17-8.
The Wolverines led by 11 after one and was ahead 43-28 at halftime, but then blew out the Tomahawks 25-3 in the third period to win going away.
