MARYSVILLE – A 70-year-old Marysville man was reportedly robbed outside a post office Monday morning after a struggle, and police later arrested a suspect two miles away.
The incident happened about 9:15 a.m. when the victim was walking back to his car at post office at 1010 State Ave. Police said the suspect reportedly came towards the man and, after a brief fight ensued, stole his money and drove off, striking the victim in the getaway.
It was unclear if the suspect had a weapon, Sgt. Pete Shove said.
The victim was unhurt and refused medical attention, but he had the presence of mind to note the suspect vehicle’s license plate, Shove said.
An officer recognized the license plate and owner, recalling recent contact he had at the owner’s home in the 5800 block of 60th Drive NE.
The officer later spotted the car at the home known to police for past criminal history, and the SWAT team surrounded the property, Shove said.
The suspect, 33, of Marysville, exited the house and surrendered while officers were waiting for search warrant approval. He was arrested without incident.
SWAT officers found four others inside the house.
A second man was arrested for outstanding felony warrants. The other people were detained briefly, then released.
