MARYSVILLE – Investigators have finished their on-scene investigation of the shooting Friday at Marysville-Pilchuck High School, sheriff’s spokeswoman Shari Ireton said Oct. 25.

They recovered a 40-caliber handgun, believed to be the weapon used in the shooting.

During the course of the investigation, detectives were able to confirm that a cafeteria worker attempted to stop the shooter.

Police are not yet releasing a suspected motive. But some family and friends say it might be over a breakup, in which Jaylen was suspended for a week from school for fighting.

“It won’t last … It will never last,” Jaylen tweeted.

The Snohomish County Medical Examiner took custody of the two deceased at the high school late Friday night, and the scene has been turned back over to the Marysville Police Department.

Identification of deceased, as well as cause and manner of death, will be provided by the county Medical Examiner’s office.

SMART detectives were able to confirm that in addition to the four wounded victims transported to area hospitals, two other students were treated medically at the high school and released for minor wounds.

Updates about the victims will be provided by the hospitals where they are receiving care.

Investigators have interviewed more than 100 student witnesses and ask that anyone who believes they have information regarding the incident to call the Snohomish County Sheriff’s Office tip line at 425-388-3845.
