MARYSVILLE — Marysville Police detectives have arrested a second suspect in the murder of 82-year-old Arthur Schroeder. It is believed the 26-year-old Marysville man was present and participated in the murder along with a 28-year-old woman who was booked into jail for murder on the evening of Feb. 10. The man — who was already incarcerated in the Snohomish County Jail on other, unrelated charges — has been formally booked for murder, robbery and the theft of a motor vehicle.
On Jan. 25, Schroeder was found dead in his residence, the victim of multiple stab wounds. His residence had been ransacked and his pickup truck had been stolen. The truck was located later that night. It had been set on fire.
Following the murder, the two suspects drove in Schroeder’s stolen truck to the male suspect’s residence, where they told an acquaintance they had just killed an old man and stolen his truck. The male suspect also told others that he and the female suspect had stabbed an old man. At the time these statements were being made, the two suspects were wearing bloody clothing and had blood on their hands, and the male suspect was holding a baggie with bloody knives inside.
Both suspects are seen on a Community Transit bus video getting off a bus during the afternoon of the murder at the entrance to the trailer park where Schroeder lived.
“We have arrested the two people we believe are responsible for the murder of Schroeder,” Marysville Police Cmdr. Robb Lamoureux said. “We also know there were others who were participants after the fact, including transporting the female suspect and burning the victim’s truck. We certainly want to have additional conversations with these people to learn precisely what their level of involvement was.”
