MARYSVILLE — Marysville residents will be able to protect themselves from identity thieves and do some recycling on Earth Day weekend, April 24, when the Marysville Municipal Court will host the annual “Community Shred Day.”

The Municipal Court parking lot, located at 1015 State Ave., will serve as the staging grounds for the event from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., with the city of Marysville, HomeStreet Bank, Rodland Toyota and Shred-It partnering to present the service.

“Our Community Shred Day is a way for us to encourage citizens to dispose of old documents that could put them at risk of identity theft if they wound up in the wrong hands,” Marysville Mayor Dennis Kendall said.

Shred-It will post two trucks at the site until 1 p.m., but they could leave sooner once they’re full, so come early. City of Marysville Community Information Officer Doug Buell explained that certain restrictions apply to Marysville participants. Document destruction is first-come, first-served, and limited to personal documents only, with no business documents accepted, and a limit of six boxes per person. No drop-offs of boxes will be permitted and participants must stay with their boxes until they’re shredded, to prevent theft or rummaging.

Also on April 24, Marysville First Assembly Church will provide dumpsters on site, with help from SVR Construction, to accept spring cleaning trash at 4705 Grove St. from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., or until they’re full. The church will not accept mattresses or couches, but they will accept appliances, as well as donations for the Northwest Center. The church also plans to provide free car washes and lunch.

That same day, Servpro’s new Marysville branch, in cooperation with PC Recycle, will be accepting old computers, electronics and peripheral devices as part of the grand opening and ribbon-cutting at its new location, at 13421 39th Ave. NE. Servpro’s activities kick off at 8:30 a.m. with a pancake fundraiser to support the Northwest Burn Foundation.
