MARYSVILLE — Soroptimist International of Marysville is conducting a “Get Acquainted” open house Feb. 5, from 5:30-7:30 p.m., at the Ken Baxter Senior Community Center, located at 514 Delta Ave.
Soroptimist International is a volunteer service organization for business and professional women. Soroptimists volunteer their talents and energy to help women and girls live their dreams, every day, by giving them the resources to create positive change for themselves, their families and their communities.
Some of the community projects they support are Hospice, YMCA’s “Invest In Youth,” the Marysville Community Food Bank, the Marysville Historical Society, the Marysville Library and Relay for Life.
Marysville Soroptimists’ hands-on projects include giving Christmas stockings and Easter baskets to Quilceda Meadows, a group home for developmentally disabled adults. They also recently sponsored the Christmas “Special People In Need” dance held at the Marysville YMCA. At the Marysville Soroptimists’ annual holiday party, they collected underwear and socks for Kloz 4 Kids, as well as blankets for St. Joseph’s House.
Marysville Soroptimists likewise helped collect food for Operation Marysville Community Christmas and sponsored the “Hams for the Hungry” food drive for the Easter holiday.
Programs they support on a federation and international level include the Soroptimist Workplace Campaign to End Domestic Violence, Soroptimist STOP Trafficking, Soroptimist Disaster Aid for Women and Girls, and “Project Sierra: A Family and a Future.”
