MARYSVILLE — Adults with special needs in the community will be able to party on the week of Valentine’s Day at the Marysville YMCA, while also supporting families in need.
The Marysville YMCA is hosting a “Special People In Need” dance, or “SPIN” dance, Feb. 10 from 7-9 p.m., with an admission cost of $1 per person, or a canned food item for the Marysville Community Food Bank.
Michelle Galasso, with the Marysville YMCA, credited Mary Jane Miller with starting the first SPIN dances, and thanked Jerry Albin, of the city of Everett Parks and Recreation Department, with helping to inspire her own efforts.
“Every third Tuesday of the month, they have a huge program at Forest Park,” Galasso said. “But there’s not as many programs for adults with developmental disabilities in Marysville.”
Galasso sees the Marysville YMCA as an ideal location to serve such people, with its easy access to mass transit.
Just as she did for the Marysville YMCA’s Halloween SPIN dance last year, Galasso is enlisting assistance to make its “Cupid’s Shuffle” SPIN dance memorable.
“We’re hoping to get donations of cookies,” said Galasso, who added that attendance at “Cupid’s Shuffle” is limited to ages 18 and older.
Galasso welcomes “Special People In Need” to attend the dance in the “Valentine’s Day colors” of red, pink and purple.
The Marysville YMCA is located at 6420 60th Dr. NE, and Galasso can be reached at 360-651-1624.
