PLU Dean’s List
At Pacific Lutheran University, more than 850 students were named to the Dean’s List for Fall 2007. The list recognizes outstanding academic achievement, as it requires a grade point average of at least 3.5 for the term.
Honorees included Laurel Gamman. She is the daughter of Larry and Helen Gamman of Marysville, Wash. A 2006 graduate of Lakewood High School, Laurel is pursuing degrees in history and psychology.

M-PHS grad receives EWU scholarship
Maria Howard of Marysville, Wash., has been awarded a Transfer Academic Honors Scholarship for $2,500 for the 2008-2009 academic year. This scholarship is awarded to students with a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher, transferring with an AA degree.
Howard’s mother is Gina Melendrez and stepfather is Burt Saches of Marysville.

The University of Portland 2008 winter quarter graduates from Marysville are Erica Dunn, BA in Organizational Communication and Douglas Sparacio, BA in Sociology. Douglas also made the Dean’s List.
ROTC Scholarship
Mr. Karl-Friedrick Overman of Arlington, a Sophomore at Claremont McKenna College was recently selected to receive a Civilian Marksmanship Program Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) college scholarship for the 2008-2009 academic year. To earn this scholarship, Overman excelled academically, demonstrated strong leadership qualifications and has the potential to be an officer.
PLU Areté Society
At Pacific Lutheran University, outstanding student scholarship in the liberal arts is recognized by election to the Areté Society, founded in 1969 and sustained by PLU’s Phi Beta Kappa faculty.
On May 24, 25 new student members were inducted into the society. This select group included Lindsey Webb. She is the daughter of Vic and Ronda Webb of Arlington, Wash. A graduate of Arlington High School, Lindsey is studying philosophy and the classics at PLU.
Areté Society members must have a grade point average of at least 3.7, completed 110 liberal art credit hours, two years of college-level work in a foreign language and one year of college math. Each spring, the faculty fellows of the society elect student members, including juniors and seniors, in recognition of their commitment to the liberal arts and record of high achievement.
