MARYSVILLE — While the merchants of Marysville’s Third Street take pride in its title as “the Street of Families,” due to the street’s old-fashioned lampposts marked with the names of honored families, this year’s prelude to “Merrysville for the Holidays” will see it becoming “the Street of Carols,” starting Dec. 5 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Participating Third Street shops will feature window displays designed to match seasonal carols, so that customers and passersby alike can guess at the songs.
“Vintage Violets may think their song is obvious, but can you guess it?” asked Mary Burns, owner of the Bookworks on Third Street. “What about Carr’s Hardware’s display of holly?”
Burns added that the Bookworks has invited local artist Gene Cyrus to produce a painting based on their own carol, which will be displayed in its window beside the Christmas tree and quartz pieces that she said will also serve as clues.
Mary Kirkland, owner of Hilton’s Pharmacy on Third Street, noted that strolling minstrels and carolers are set to perform for the occasion.
Participating Third Street shops will also offer treats, specials and “friendly smiles from everyone, wanting to help you choose your special gift, or just to have an enjoyable time,” according to Burns.
