MARYSVILLE — Marysville-Pilchuck rallied from behind to beat Arlington 21-13 in a 3A North Wesco league football Homecoming game Oct. 7.
Arlington led 13-7 at the end of the first half, but some “tweaks here and there” made by M-P coach Brandon Carson put the Tommies back on track in the second half.
“Our offense did a great job of coming out of the second half and getting long-sustained drives,” Carson said.
In the third quarter the Tommies took more than seven minutes off the clock by running the ball, which eventually led to an eight-yard touchdown run by Ryan Benneman.
At one point, M-P turned over the ball on downs, but an interception by M-P’s Royce Inthathirath gave the Tomahawks ideal position. In the fourth quarter M-P quarterback Kee-An Ballard scored his second rushing touchdown of the game, after making plays with his passing and running.
“He had a great game, he really did,” Carson said of his junior QB who didn’t shy away from contact on his carries. “He made some really tough throws, and I thought his reads were good — maybe a little to good.”
Another interception by M-P’s Corbin Simms spoiled a potential comeback drive by Arlington in the final moments of the fourth quarter, sealing the win for M-P.
“It was really big to get a pick like that and get the momentum back in our favor and score a touchdown,” Carson said. “We’ve had to use all of our downs tonight.”
Arlington scored its first touchdown on a three-yard run by Gabriel Green and its second on a 30-yard pass from Campbell Hudson to Chrsitian Waldal.
M-P improved its record to 2-4, and Arlington’s dropped to 2-4.
