MARYSVILLE — A routine traffic stop randomly coincided with a narcotics bust that Marysville Police had already planned.

“We’d started planning it just last week,” Marysville Police Sgt. Brad Akau said on Oct. 12, just outside a house in the 3800 block of 80th Street NE. “We’d had a briefing on this just prior to one of our patrols pulling over the car here. They just happened to stop here.”

Akau explained that Marysville Police already had a warrant to search the house for narcotics. Passing motorists and pedestrians might have noticed the number of people in handcuffs on the hood of one of the many Marysville Police patrol cars parked outside the house shortly after 1 p.m., but Akau noted that all off those people remain innocent until proven guilty.

“Some of them were occupants of the house, while others were occupants of the car,” Akau said. “One of our patrol officers spotted one of the passengers as being wanted in another jurisdiction, and the car itself had a violation, but beyond that, we’re still sifting through all those people to determine who will go to jail and who will be released.”

As of 1:30 p.m., Akau reported that the house itself still needed to be searched thoroughly, and that Marysville Police had only just begun photographing inside.

“We did extract the people we wanted from the house,” Akau said. “There’s a bunch of stuff in there, though, so it’s going to be a while. The fight continues.”
